The Northern Suburbs Street Rod Club Inc. (Melbourne) have been running major rod runs (Bright 21 years, Lake Mulwala 8 years) for 30 years now and have been fortunate to be able to make donations to charities, deserving individuals, Rotary, Lions, and sporting organizations of around $300,000.
We were fortunate to be able to put on our Lake Mulwala Rod Run in November 2019 before Covid hit early in 2020. From that run the club had decided to make donations to the local Rotary and Lions clubs for their assistance of $2,000.00 each as well as the local SES Yarrawonga of $3,565.00. Members came together with the SES at the Tourism offices Yarrawonga to present the cheque and was well received.
The 2020 rod run was cancelled completely because of Covid restrictions.
For 2021 the run again had to be cancelled, it wasn’t until the very last week that restrictions were lifted and we were at least able to put together a show and shine on the foreshore of Lake Mulwala. The club had decided during the year to make a donation of a wheelchair to Specialist Hoops Basketball, an organization which assists disabled persons to be able to participate in basketball, to the value of $1,700.
Prior to the running of the event, we made the decision to again make a donation to Specialist Hoops Basketball, as well as a local Yarrawonga organisation, Friends in Common, which assists local cancer patients with vouchers to be able to purchase petrol, travel requirements and accommodation to get to appointments in Albury and Melbourne.
From the participants of the Show and Shine, an auction and donations, we were able to present a cheque for $2,165.00 to each of these organizations.
Already another wheelchair has been purchased, and because of the Covid restrictions, Friends in Common hadn’t been able to have any events to raise funds, so it was also extremely well received.
