2009 19th ASRF Street Rod Nationals - Goulburn

Easter has come and gone, the Tassie rodders did themselves proud, and now it's time to start telling you about the next big bash ... Goulburn 09.

The ACT DC learnt heaps from the 2007 event and have a large number of improvements planned for next year, but first lets tell you what we believe were the highlights that need to stay:

  • DRIVING EVENTS
  • KROOZE NIGHT
  • ART SHOW
  • TRADERS FUNCTION
  • LADIES FUNCTION

These aspects were all well received, so we will just fine tune them and follow on last years successes.

The Krooze Night will be longer, both in duration and route, and we will solve the access issues + ensure we get better footage for the DVD.

The Art Show will also be open longer hours and start 4 days earlier.

Now for the stuff that needs changing:

VENUE IMPROVEMENTS

We have been working closely with the Goulburn Mulwaree Council to plan and commence implementing some major improvements to the Show Ground venue.

A new set of sealed tracks will give us great Krooze routes to circulate within the venue and to travel between the freshly sealed scrutineering and rod repair shop precinct, the camp ground(s) and the traders and food courts.

The three separate camping areas will cater for Caravans, Tents and Club Groups and should promote a “village” concept, with people coming and going to visit the “residents”. They are dispersed around the site, but provide easy vehicular or walking access to all amenities.

There will be a full site map in the next issue of SRN, but elsewhere in this issue are a couple of happy snaps from the recent Rod Show at the Goulburn Annual Show. They are circulating on the new main circuit, which is around the outside of the harness track we used last year.

Around these tracks, and near the club camp area, will be sites for club marques, and pre-erected Hokkers will be available.

The traders area will be enlarged, and our new traders manager is working with past traders to determine better pricing and longer opening hours, along with giving the Ladies Event traders the option to stay longer.

FOOD and DRINKS

We are going to do a major expansion of the food court, with lots of healthy choices and an undercover eating area with tables and chairs, which will double up as the night time entertainment area.

We are evaluating options on how to include some meals in the entry fee, with our current thought being the issuing of pre-paid vouchers that can be redeemed at any on-site venue, and maybe some in town. More info next SRN, but we have taken the feedback on board and will be providing more than the ladies and traders catering this time around.

ENTERTAINMENT

To keep you entertained, we will again have a mix of Rock and Roll and Rock-a-Billy bands, a DJ Van and kids performers and we will add a Presentation Dinner Dance, a kids disco and a significantly improved kids side show alley. A movie venue, amusement machines and a series of seminars are also being investigated…..more next SRN.

Outside the venue, in co-operation with Goulburn Mulwaree Council Tourist Information, we have organise self guided tours of the local attractions and will provide far better access to information about whats worth checking out.

Subject to interest, we can also put on bus tours or Kroozes to the southern highlands specialty shopping attractions, local wineries or maybe a golf day. Let us know what you want via club/DC channels, email or the trusty phone……we aim to please.

ACCOMODATION

As mentioned above, camping is available on-site, including powered sites for Vans and MotorHomes on either grass or hardstand, powered or unpowered camping sites, and/or a limited number of powered or unpowered club group sites.

Camping can be booked initially via Tourist Information on 1800 353 646, and a committee member will contact you to ensure the site is matched to your requirements. Alternatively contact us via camping@nats09.asrf.org.au

All other accommodation can be booked via Tourist Information on 1800 353 646. Sheri has reserved much of the accommodation to ensure it is available to rodders, so ringing venues direct will not give you an accurate picture on availability.
